My Turn

This is a poem that I wrote about Dunns River Falls in Jamaica. It was truly an amazing sight and one of the most beautiful works of nature I have ever seen. The poem takes on a little more of a philosophical twist than what I had originally intended, but oh well.

A Mighty Body of Water

The powerful river running ever downward,
Boasting a magnificent palette of green and blue hues.

Rocks poke up out of the rush,
Practically statues by our standards,
Rough, tall and still—
Reminding the world that not everyone
Is obligated to sprint quickly through life.

The roar of the water is overwhelming—
Yet, undaunted, it continues to flow.
Though verdant banks stay shockingly still,
Life passes
Never stopping
Never slowing
For the moments to keep…and forget.

I stand, not knowing whether to stay dormant in
The stagnant pool or to join the flow,
Torn by the decision to live or let live.

Hey, Lea, I saw that you wrote something in a local newspaper... the Essex Reporter I think? Cool! Um, and now I've revealed how seldom I read that paper. I'll fix that!
